Lesson 2 – Act 1 Scene 1

The lesson starts with a ‘fill in the gaps’ activity, based on an extract of scene 1.  Then, we will briefly discuss the difference between an act and a scene. The students will watch a video to help them understand what is happening in this scene, and after this, they will read the play together in class. They need to answer a few questions in their books, focusing on the relationships between the characters, to understand who they are and what is hapenning. We will then look at what a simile is, and after some practice the students will need to find the similes in Act 1 scene 1. The plenary is a creative writing activity based on that scene.
Homework – rewrite an extract of the scene into modern English.
