Lesson 8 – The Misunderstanding
The lesson starter is an exciting 3 minutes challenge: the students have to find as many words as they can with the letters MISUNDERSTANDING. The students will understand what is happening in that scene by reading and performing the second part of the scene in front of the class. It is a great opportunity to reveal some talents as it is a very intense moment in the story ! We will then reflect on each character’s feelings, and ask ourselves what we would feel in that situation. The students will then have to find some precise sentences in the extract to demonstrate their analysis skills. After this, we will look at the five stages of a story; the students will discover by themselves what it consists of and will think about various examples. Finally, two challenging reading activities will help the students understand what is happening at the end of the scene. As a plenary, we will reflect on that famous quotation ‘Lord, what fools these mortals be!’.
